At long last, here are the British bodied gasser-style, competion altered and other more stock-styled competition car images that I have so far uploaded fom Malcolm Dyer's slide collection.

If you can help identify any cars, drivers and/or specific events, or correct any annotations that I have made then please get in touch.

Back in the age before "chelsea tractor" breed of 4x4s the average car size on British roads was much, much smaller than today. Minis, Austin A35 and A40s, Morris Minors, Hillman Imps and many other types at the compact end were literally dwarfed by the likes of a Dodge Charger (an intermediate sized yank of that era). As a consequence they could be small enought to fit in a garage whilst on the trailer. Short wheelbases would aid weight transfer and either due to a factors of cost, space and/ or a desire not to twist the thing up completely it was common for the engines to be the Jag 3.8, or Rover or Daimler v8 and their power to weight often outperformed the larger 5 and 7 litre cars.

Amongst the favourites were Stripteaser which would literally jump off the strip when doing a dry-hop (the flying doghouse according to an overheard yank voice), Dorset Horn, Fire Injun, Rocky II (which preceded Al's Gasser, and may have been one of Malcolm's favourites) and there were plenty of others. One of the names I liked best possibly never ran on the track, I saw it in the Santa Pod car park but it seemed apt, Ol' Mutha Riley.
